A mainstay of the Keuka College Board of Trustees for nearly 15 years and the president of Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) will receive honorary degrees at Keuka’s mid-year conferral of degrees Sunday, Dec. 13.

Marcia B. Dugan, a member of Keuka’s governing board since 1994, save for one year, and Barbara G. Risser, who has served as president of FLCC since 2007,will receive honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees at the ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. in the Weed Physical Arts Center gymnasium.

Risser, who will also address the graduates, held various posts at Onondaga Community College (OCC) before coming to FLCC, including vice president of student and academic services, and was a member of the OCC faculty for 20 years.

She has received several awards and distinctions, including the OCC Trustees Award, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award, and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

The Canandaigua resident holds a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree from Syracuse University, and a bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College.

Dugan was first elected to Keuka’s governing board in 1994 and served nine years. She was re-elected in 2004, and again in 2007.

A 1953 graduate of Antioch College, Dugan served as director of public relations at Keuka College and director of public affairs at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT) before retiring. An advocate for the hearing impaired, she served as president of the Hearing Loss Association of America Board of Directors from 1996 to 1998 and was president of the International Federation of Hard of Hearing People from 2001 to 2006.

Locally, the Penn Yan resident was instrumental in establishing the Yates Performing Arts Series and Yates County Arts Council, and was a founding member of the Keuka Arts Festival.
