Spring sports teams mine plenty of NEAC gold
Two NCAA Division III tournament berths, three North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) titles, four Player of the Year awards, one Coach of the Year award, and a slew of all-conference honors.
Not bad for one year.
How about just the spring season?
That’s right, Keuka spring sports teams accomplished all this and more. Here’s a recap:
Softball
Keuka (24-8) won its third straight NEAC tournament title with a 3-2 win over D’Youville.
The Storm, which went 3-0 in tourney play, was led by MVP Denise Bilbow, who went 4x11 with a home run, double, 3 RBI, 5 runs, and 4 stolen bases.
Sarah Fredricks was named NEAC Player of the Year. The first baseman hit .456 with 10 homers, 7 doubles, a pair of triples, 40 RBI, a .933 slugging percentage, and .515 on-base percentage. Kate Kraus was named Pitcher of the Year after winning 11 of 15 decisions and posting 4 saves. She had 12 complete games, 3 shutouts and fanned 84 hitters in 95 2/3 innings.

Keuka advanced to NCAA Division III tournament where it defeated St. John Fisher, 10-2 in the opening round of regional play at Ithaca College. The Storm lost to the University of Rochester before dropping a tough, 7-6 decision to Fisher in an elimination game.
Sara James was named to the all-tournament team. She finished the season with a team-best .472 average and 51 hits.
Women’s Tennis
Keuka finished second at the NEAC tournament but earned a trip to the NCAA Division III tournament because winner Penn State-Harrisburg is a provisional conference member.
The Storm dropped a 5-4 decision to the Nittany Lions in the championship match.
Megan McGowan won the individual title and was named NEAC Player of the Year. She was joined on the all-conference first team by Nicole Becker. Alison Liberty and Katie Bremer were named to the second team.
In doubles, the duos of McGowan and Liberty and Bremer and Jennifer Heinrich captured first team honors while Kelsey Tamblin and Nicole Becker were second team selections.
Keuka earned its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III tourney where it fell to Denison in the first round.
Men’s Lacrosse
Keuka (8-7) claimed the inaugural NEAC men’s lacrosse title with a 17-4 win over Medaille College.
Tournament MVP Adam Farrell scored 5 goals and chipped in an assist to lead the Storm attack.
Drew Kunda was named NEAC Player of the Year after scoring 32 goals and assisting on 11 others. Brett Leonard, who compiled a goals-against-average of 8.39, was named Goalie of the Year.

Also earning first team All-NEAC honors were T.J. Radka, Greg Marsh, and Isaac Zehr. Chris Sullivan and Cody List were second team picks.
Women’s Lacrosse
The Storm (4-7) upset No. 1 seed Cazenovia, 14-13 to claim the inaugural NEAC women’s lacrosse crown.
Tournament MVP Brandy Shafer scored 5 goals to lead Keuka.

Audrey Randall was selected Goalie of the Year after posting a 11.27 goals-against average. Joining Randall on the All-NEAC first team were Shafer, Laura Dougherty, and Brenna Leach. Brittany Murray and Jenn York were second team selections.
Golf
Josh Robinson was tied for the lead with three others after the first round of the NEAC golf tournament.
Twenty-four hours later, he was all alone at the top.

Robinson fired a two-under par 69 at Cazenovia Country Club to win the NEAC individual title and Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. The senior’s 36-hole total of 145 was two shots better that Dave Henry of Rutgers University-Camden.
Robinson, Henry and two of his Henry’s teammates—Daniel Drazen and Brett Hagen—fired 76s to share the 18-hole lead. Drazen returned a second round 72 while Hagen carded a 73.
Keuka finished fourth in the team competition. Freshman Curtis Evanicki finished tied for ninth after firing rounds of 82 and 76. Evanicki earned second team All-NEAC honors.
Men’s Tennis
Keuka finished fourth at the NEAC tournament.
Patrick Barker earned a spot on the All-NEAC third team.
Baseball
Seth Fikes’ crew (7-26) upset Penn-State Harrisburg, 11-8 in its NEAC tourney opener before dropping games to Penn State-Berks and Cazenovia.
First baseman Ted Black earned a spot on the All-NEAC third team after hitting .300 with 3 dingers and 23 RBI.
