Lightner Gallery show opens Oct. 17
Paintings by Aurora resident William Roberts will be on display in the Lightner Library Gallery Oct. 17-Nov. 14.
An artist’s reception is slated Sunday, Oct. 26 from 2-4 p.m. in the Lightner Library and is open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-11 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

A member of the faculty at Wells College, Roberts serves as professor of art, is a John D. Wilson Presidential Professor, and is director of the String Room Gallery. Roberts teaches courses in visual organization; advertising design; beginning, intermediate and advanced drawing; beginning, intermediate and advanced painting; and lithography.
Fascinated with birds and horses, Roberts says observing these animals has always been a visual experience.
“I like the primeval qualities of both types of animals, and am captivated with their forms, colors and movements,” he said. “I am equally interested in abstraction as a way of painting.”
Roberts’ work has been shown at Blossom Music Center, Peninsula, Ohio; Canton Art Institute, Canton Ohio; Cleveland Museum Traveling Show, Cleveland, Ohio; FAR Gallery, New York City; Everson Museum, Syracuse; Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; Art & Objects Gallery, Palm Beach, Florida; 55 Mercer Gallery, New York City; Johnson Museum, Cornell University, Ithaca; Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Geneva; Delavan Art Gallery, Syracuse; Sola Art Gallery, Ithaca; and Crossgate Gallery, Lexington, Ky.
